What you'll find here

Finding a good hairdresser is mostly local knowledge, and that knowledge is hard to come by if you've just moved or you're after something different from your usual chair. This site is our attempt to write it down — area by area, from the city centre out to Wigan and Rochdale.

We cover what the salon scene actually feels like in each place. The busy stretches of the Northern Quarter, the more relaxed pace in Didsbury, the mix you get along Chorlton's high street, and the practical questions that come up everywhere: walk-ins versus appointments, prices, who's good with curls or colour.

It's the kind of thing you'd normally pick up from a friend who already lives there. We've tried to be that friend.
